Bodies
Oil on Loxley linen canvas, 51x76cm – February–May 2025
Bodies is a deeply personal oil painting on linen that explores the raw, emotional experience of human existence. This piece is driven by inner rage and pain, directed towards the universal creator, capturing the profound frustration of being forced to exist in the first place. The work embodies the tension between the mind and the physical body, symbolising the feeling of being trapped within the limitations of our human form.
I often feel tormented by the reality of things inevitably failing in the body, and the dread and pain drove me to create this large 50x70cm oil painting. I needed to wholly express all my raw, unfiltered suppressed emotions towards the topic. The process of expressing this unfiltered emotion was incredibly cathartic, a release that allowed me to confront my inner struggles.
Through this piece, I hope to resonate with others who also feel the weight of their bodies, the limitations they impose, and the emotional complexity of existence. It is an invitation to reflect on our shared human experience – the connection between the physical and the spiritual – and the frustration of being bound to our fragile forms.
